The Breach of the Spit

On looking out along the beach this morning it was apparent that the Spit had been over topped during the night. So, just before high tide today (about 3.00p.m.) I wandered along the beach to the second track way from the old car park and watched... the sea was rough and the wind was blowing a hooley...it was impressive but slightly worrying!

Hopefully it will seal up again rather than be a permanent feature.
Who knows what effect this would have on the tidal flow!

It's Boxing Day on Pagham Beach

Whilst the annual Boxing Day Pagham Pram Race created  a lot of interest the beach continued to be ravaged by the sea with the high tide around midday.

First the fun and frolics.....
A sizeable crowd awaits the arrival of the contestants

The Dizzy Ducklings!
The Wizard.
A well earned rest?

But along the shoreline..........

The stacked up rocks are being undermined.

More shingle is disappearing.

The frontage of the bungalows looks seriously close.

In places really worrying.

Hopefully the diggers will be back soon...yet again to replace the shingle loss!

Hope?

A striking sunrise over Pagham Bay this morning.

Taken from the trackway from the 'old' carpark.

A Brent Goose flies in off the sea...
Equally striking!

...silhouetted against the sunrise.

A little later in the morning looking back along the beach
A Black Headed Gull looks on, unconcerned at the plight of the beach dwellers.
But yesterday we had a visit....
Is this as a result of this...
..planning application !!!
Signs of hope??

Someone enjoying the surf conditions!

It's a Winner!!!

Looking up the beach at low tide today
Action is here  to sort out the  problem.

...with A.D. C.conducting a site inspection

Some of the more vulnerable properties.

Four Winds...looks precarious from this angle but its fine really!

Beach Dwellers hit by storm Clodagh.

More erosion but not washed away following the weekend storms........

Looking west

Looking East

It is understood that Arun District council are planning to send the diggers in within the next few days.

When will Storm Desmond hit?
Lets hope he doesn't arrive over the Christmas period when big spring tides are due..
